My opinion on who are the best pound for pound fighters in the world!

There has been a lot of talk recently on who is the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

Dana white has recently come out and said that he believes Conor McGregor to be the best, however the official UFC rankings have Demetrious Johnson at number 1. In my opinion the reason why Dana has Conor on top is for a number of reasons. He is trying to make the McGregor vs Mayweather fight. Dana White is trying to sell McGregor as being the number one, in an attempt to make McGregor even more marketable for the fight, in the hope of potentially getting a better deal. The second reason is because Dana is annoyed at Johnson turning down a fight recently against TJ Dillashaw.

The official UFC pound for pound rankings are below:

1
Demetrious Johnson
2
Conor McGregor
3
Daniel Cormier
4
Stipe Miocic
5
Max Holloway
6
Cody Garbrandt
7
Joanna Jedrzejczyk
8
Dominick Cruz
9
Tyron Woodley
10
Jose Aldo
11
Michael Bisping
12
Amanda Nunes
13
TJ Dillashaw
14
Khabib Nurmagomedov
15
Frankie Edgar

It will be interesting to see where Jon Jones would go in the rankings when he returns. Surely a win over Daniel Cormier would put him in contention for the number one spot. If you consider the length of time he has been out of the sport, a win over such a high caliber opponent would truly help with help with his already outstanding legacy.

Same goes for GSP who is in my opinion the greatest fighter ever. However I still have doubts if he will actually return or not.

If McGregor stays inactive, does he even deserve a space in the rankings? He has made the lightweight division stagnant and if he boxes Mayweather, this will hold up the division for even longer.

Bisping hasn't fought in a while either and there is a risk of the middleweight division also going in a similar direction.

It is hard to justify Aldo being so high in the rankings, considering he has just lost his last fight. I think Aldo is probably on the downturn in his career.

MMA fans don't really care who the pound for pound best is. The only reason the list exists is to help companies such as the UFC sell fights.

What do you think of the currently pound for pound list? There are several names on there in my opinion who are lucky to be on there and I feel the list will look different once this years fights have taken place.

My opinion on the potential Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor boxing fight.

Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor has been talked up recently in the media with both fighters having spoken publicly about the potential fight. Mayweather has mentioned the possible large sums of money that both him and McGregor could earn from the fight. Mayweather is the greatest boxer of his generation and McGregor is a fighter who has made a lot of noise in recent years. The way McGregor destroyed a dominant champion like José Aldo is evidence of his skill as a mixed martial artist. Mayweather has suggested that the potential fight could be closer than many people expect, however I strongly disagree. I think that Mayweather would easily win a boxing fight if the two were to fight. McGregor was out boxed by Nate Diaz, so what chance does he have against Mayweather? Boxing and MMA are just two different sports. If the fight was to be an MMA fight then McGregor would win, however it is a boxing fight so he will not. Mayweather is not known for his knock out power so I think McGregor might be able to last the full twelve rounds. Mayweather would use his speed and movement to out box McGregor and would be able to land punches at will. Mayweather would win a comfortable points decision.

How do you think the potential boxing fight between and Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor would go?

7 reasons why Michael Bisping will defeat Luke Rockhold and become UFC Middleweight Champion!

At UFC 199 Luke Rockhold will attempt to defend his UFC Middleweight championship against Michael Bisping. UFC 199 takes place on the 4th June 2016 in Inglewood, California. This blog post will provide you with the 7 reasons why I think Michael Bisping will win.

1. Bisping's recent win over Anderson Silva. It feels like to me that this fight was a turning point in Bisping's career. The atmosphere that night in the O2 Arena in London was incredible and I believe Bisping will use that as motivation to go on and win. The way Bisping took all that punishment from Silva, and was still able to win shows great heart and determination.

2. Bisping's UFC experience is up there with the best. Bisping has competed in the UFC 25 times. Only Frank Mir, Tito Ortiz and Gleison Tibau have had more fights than Bisping. I believe Bisping will use this experience to get the win.

3. Bisping has the momentum going in to this fight and I believe he will carry on where he left off.

4. In my opinion Bisping was winning the first fight between himself and Rockhold, before he was finished. I believe Bisping is a much better fighter now than he was then and I am confident he will not make the same mistakes again.

5. Bisping is one of the best when it comes to mind games. Bisping has the ability to mentally beat Rockhold before they have even stepped in the octagon.

6. Bisping will be fighting in the state where he trains out of which is unusual for Bisping given he usually has to travel. It can not be underestimated how important this will be in terms of his preparation for the fight.

7. Bisping last fought in February, while Rockhold has not fought since December last year. Rockhold will have extra ring rust compared to Bisping and this could be key.

Who do you think is going to win?

New UFC Middleweight Rankings | 29/01/2016

The UFC has updated its ranking in the UFC Middleweight division.

1. Luke Rockhold
2. Chris Weidman
3. Jacare Souza
4. Vitor Belfort
5. Lyoto Machida
6. Tim Kennedy
7. Michael Bisping
8. Robert Whittaker
9. Gegard Mousasi
10. Thales Leites
11. Uriah Hall
12. Derek Brunson
13. Dan Henderson
14. Roan Carneiro
15. CB Dollaway
16. Rafael Natal

The notable change is that Yoel Romero is no longer in the top ten. Romero who has a record of 11 wins with 1 defeat, tested positive for steroids after his fight. As of yet he has received no punishment.

There are a few notable fights coming soon that will impact on the rankings.
Michael Bisping will be fighting Anderson Silva at UFC Fight Night London on 27th February 2016. As mentioned in previous posts I will be at the event. At the same event Gegard Mousasi will be fighting against Thales Leites. After losing his last fight, Gegard Mousasi will be looking to get back on track and move up the rankings.

Another fight in February in the middleweight division is Derek Brunson vs Roan Carneiro. The fight takes place at UFC Fight Night 83 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Finally, tomorrow night, 30th January 2016, sees Rafael Natal fight against Kevin Casey at UFC on Fox 18 from Newark, New Jersey. Be sure to check out my previous blog post where I give my prediction for this fight and the rest of the event.
